Former Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he’s optimistic the Bavarians can produce a winning result against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in tonight’s second leg semi-final clash in the UEFA Champions League.

Recall that the first leg ended 2-2 in Germany last Tuesday, and both teams will be desperate to reach the final.

Speaking with AS, Rummenigge stated that surviving Bernabeu may be complicated but that getting to the final is possible.

“I know what awaits us because I have experienced it many times, both during my time as a player and during my time on the board of directors.

“Surviving the Bernabéu is complicated. But getting to the final is possible, we can beat Real Madrid. Leipzig has demonstrated this over the last 16 years and my friend Pep Guardiola also recently demonstrated that problems can be created for Real Madrid at the Bernabéu.

“It helps us that goals scored away from home no longer have double value, so we start again from 0-0. I have faith in the Champions League version that Bayern has shown throughout the season.”
