IPOH, Jan 11 — Seven people have been called to assist with police investigations into yesterday’s early morning fire that broke out at the Ayer Tawar home of Perak DAP leader Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and suspected to be a case of arson.

Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said today that statements from seven people have been recorded.

“No arrest have been made so far,” he added in a statement.

Mohd Yusri also said that police will wait for the forensic reports on the 11 samples taken by the Fire and Rescue Department at the scene.

He added that police will increase patrols around Ngeh’s housing area.

Ngeh and his wife were reportedly sleeping when they were alerted to the fire when a passerby rang their doorbell.

No human casualties were reported, but three cars — a Honda CRV, a Toyota Hilux, and a Mercedes E300 — were damaged.

Yesterday, Mohd Yusri said a Molotov cocktail was believed to have caused the fire outbreak.

Police are searching for the perpetrator.

Ngeh, who held a press conference at his Beruas parliamentary service centre yesterday, said that he has forgiven the perpetrator and believes the person was instigated into committing the crime.
