Muslims celebrate Eid-El-fitr in Abia

Muslims in Abia State on Wednesday, joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-fitr.

The Muslim faithful who thronged the Umuahia township stadium where the prayers were said, used the occasion to thank Allah for making it possible for them to complete their 30 days fasting period and for keeping them alive to celebrate the festival.

Speaking to journalists after leading the prayers at the stadium at School Road Umuahia, the Chief Imam Central Mosque, Eket Street, Aminu Lawal, admonished the Muslim faithful on the virtues of the Ramadan fasting and urged them to always do the will of Allah.

He congratulated the Muslims on the celebration and called for a sustained peaceful coexistence between all residents of Abia.

Also, the Sarkin of Hausa in Abia, Alhaji Yaro Danladi, while congratulating the Muslims, also appreciated the efforts of the Abia state government in infrastructure.

At Eket and Lagos streets, populated by Northern businessmen and women, many of the Muslims were seen in celebration mood, exchanging gifts and smiles.

Some Northern traders along Eket Street in the Umuahia also gave some discount to their regular customers, in appreciation for their long patronage.

Speaking to DAILY POST, some of the faithful including Sadiku Ibrahim, Garba Sani and Malik Dalhatu, said the present harsh economic situation in the country could not prevent them from celebrating this year’s Eid-El-fitr.

They further expressed the hope that Nigerians would survive the present economic conditions to emerge stronger in the future but urged the leaders to always consider the poor people, in their policies.
