I Wasn’t Expecting Arsenal, Liverpool To Drop Points –Man City Midfielder, Silva

Manchester City forward Bernardo Silva says he never expected Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool to drop points at the weekend.

City (now on 73 points) went into the weekend fixtures two points behind the Gunners and the Reds.

While last season’s Treble winners thrashed Luton Town 5-1, Liverpool fell 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

For Arsenal, two late strikes from Leon Bailey and Olie Watkins secured a 2-0 win at the Emirates stadium.

“I wasn’t expecting both teams to drop points,” Silva was quoted on Man City’s X handle.

“We didn’t just depend on ourselves – now we depend on ourselves and if we do our job properly we win the Premier League.

“Two weeks ago when we played Arsenal it looked like everything had gone, now it looks like City, maybe in two weeks it changes again. That’s why football is beautiful.”

The Portuguese international said the City team has proved through the years that they are capable of getting to the final months fighting for all the competitions.

“It is not easy, obviously. That’s why only two teams won the Treble in English football because it’s not easy. But we are very happy to be in a position to fight for them.”

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League second leg quarter-final clash with Real Madrid, Silva said:”We still have that feeling that we are very strong at home with our people. The season before when Real Madrid knocked us out at the Bernabeu, we wanted to put things right.

“That performance was a bit of an apology to our fans in a way for what happened the season before – we owed them a chance to win the competition and we did it.”
