GOALKEEPER:

Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United)

Stanley Nwabali kicked off February with an impressive display in goal for the Super Eagles in a 1-0 quarter-final win against Angola at AFCON 2023.

In the semi-final win against South Africa, he made two penalty shootout saves and was named Man of the Match.

DEFENDERS:

Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest)

Was impressive for the Eagles in the month in review and showed his versatility when he was drafted as a left wing-back against South Africa in the semi-final.

Was named in the Team of the Tournament despite the defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final in which he featured while injured – and a spot well earned in the Completesports.com Nigeria Team of the Month (February).

William Troost-Ekong (PAOK)

Scored two crucial penalty kicks against the best goalkeeper of AFCON 2023 (South Africa’s Rowan Williams) in the semi-finals and also netted in the final against Côte d’Ivoire.

Unfortunately, the Eagles finished runners-up but William Troost-Ekong took home the Player of the Tournament award and was included in the Team of the Tournament.

Semi Ajayi (West Brom)

Featured in all three games the Super Eagles played last month and was one of the reasons the team reached the AFCON 2023 final.

But could not crown his effort with the trophy as the Eagles fell to the hosts.

Calvin Bassey (Fulham)

Was solid in defence for the Eagles in February, thanks to no-nonsense approach in all the games he played in.

Carried his impressive form to Fulham and scored in their shock 2-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

MIDFIELDERS:

Frank Onyeka (Brentford)

Was one of the standout performers for the Eagles last month due to his tireless work rate in midfield.

Though the Brentford battler was subbed off in the final against Cote d’Ivoire,  his all-round performance in the period under review has earned him a spot in the Completesports.com’s Nigeria Nigeria Team of the Month.

Alex Iwobi (Fulham)

Started build-up up to the Super Eagles goal in hard-fought 1-0 win against Angola in the quarterfinals.

He put behind the disappointment of not winning the AFCON by scoring the winner in Fulham’s 2-1 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Moses Simon (Nantes)

Provided the assist for Ademola Lookman in the 1-0 quarter-final win against Angola. He also provided the assist as Nantes defeated Lorient 1-0 in the French Ligue 1.

FORWARDS:

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

Was a handful for the opposition defence in the three games the Eagles played last month unfortunately ended with the AFCON 2023 runners-up medal.

Returned to club football after the AFCON disappointment and scored five goals in three games for Napoli.

Cyriel Dessers (Rangers)

Had a month to remember as he bagged two braces for title hopefuls Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Netted a brace in the 3-1 home win against Ross County and bagged another brace in the 5-0 win against visiting Hearts.

Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)

His goal in the AFCON 2023 quarter-final win against Angola helped the Eagles progress into the last four.

Ended the tournament on a high despite the loss to Côte d’Ivoire as he made the AFCON 2023 Team of the Tournament.
