FCT Schools Sports Festival Gets New Name, Dates

The revived Federal Capital Territory Schools Sports Festival, renamed after the minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike will now be held from March 11 to March 14 2024 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja

Media coordinator of the festival, Chinedu Ohanusi told Completesports.com that 840 athletes made up of champions and runner-ups from eight zones will gather in Abuja on March 11 for the finals to determine the winners of the schools’ fiesta that has been in the cooler for 25 years

The zonal qualifiers were held from February 22 to March 2 in eight designated centres; Abaji, Tunga Maji, Kuje, Kwali, Dutse Alhaji, Karashi, Gwagwalada and Tudun Wada, featuring track and field, football, handball, volleyball, table tennis and board games among primary schools, junior and senior secondary schools, boys and girls

Speaking on the revived festival, FCT Director of the Secondary School Department, Mallam Hashmi Adamu said all arrangements for accommodation, transportation and other needs that will ensure that the festival is held successfully have been put in place with adequate security measures that will guarantee the safety of athletes and officials

He revealed that the festival has been renamed Barrister Nyesom Wike FCT Schools Sports Festival 2024. Mallam Hashmi Adamu also revealed that the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will grace the grand finale on March 14 at the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja.
