The highest goal scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations, Emilio Nsue went from being a hero to a villain just days after he was honoured with the highest goal scorer award of the competition.

The Football Association of Equatorial Guinea ( FEGUIFUT) confirmed the suspension of Emilio Nsue and his teammate, Ivan Salvador. According to reports, the 34-year-old allegedly showed a lot of indiscipline during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted in Ivory Coast.

The statement read thus;

"Ivan Salvador, on the 29th of this year, he was involved in an unpleasant incident in the city of Abidjan that led to the intervention of the police of this country causing a notable delay in the return of the expedition of Equatorial Guinea and causing degradation in the reputation and image of both the Seleccion and Equatorial Guinea."

This decision means that both Nsue and Salvador will not be available for the national team until further notice. Equatorial Guinea will not be in any competitive action until June 2024 when they play the World Cup qualifiers.

Nsue emerged as the highest goal scorer in the tournament, he scored five goals in four games they were knocked out by Equatorial Guinea in the round of 16. He was in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11, 2024, to collect the Golden Boot after the final game between Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
