Arsenal Set To Re-Sign Szczesny As Possible Replacement For Ramsdale

Arsenal are eyeing up a shock move to bring Wojciech Szczesny back to the Emirates Stadium as they prepare for the departure of Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners have begun the process of finding a replacement for Ramsdale, who has lost his place to David Raya and is set to leave the club this summer.

Ramsdale has made just six Premier League appearances this season and last featured during the 2-1 win over Brentford back in March.

Arsenal would ideally like to sign a homegrown goalkeeper to help abide Premier League squad rules and Szczesny has been listed as a potential option, according to The Standard, via the Mirror

The 34-year-old came through the Gunners academy and made 181 appearances before moving to Juventus in 2017.

Juventus are keen on selling a goalkeeper this summer as they plot a move to bring in Michele Di Gregorio from Monza, which has raised the potential of Szczesny leaving.

The Pole, who has one year left on his contract, has been first-choice at Juventus this season and it remains to be seen whether he would be happy as back-up to Raya.

Brighton’s Jason Steele is another homegrown goalkeeper Arsenal might target.

The 33-year-old has played 16 matches in the Premier League this season and has been battling Bart Verbruggen for the No.1 jersey on the south coast. Steele has two years remaining on his deal at the Seagulls.

The Gunners are also tracking the progress of young Ajax shot-stopper Diant Ramaj.

The 22-year-old is someone that fits the mould of a goalkeeper Arsenal would want, considering he is superb with the ball at his best but could be reluctant at giving up his place as a regular starter.

As for Ramsdale, Newcastle are the leading candidates to sign the England international as he goes in search of regular game time this summer.

Back in March, boss Mikel Arteta admitted no talks over his future would happen until the end of the season, however.
