Afghanistan’s exports reach nearly US$2b in 2023

KABUL: The exports of the war-torn Afghanistan in 2023 had reached nearly US$2 billion, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad said, reported Xinhua.

“The volume of Afghanistan’s exports in the past year of 2023 had reached US$1.9 billion and the figure shows a 2 per cent increase which is equal to US$41 million against the export volume in 2022,“ the private television channel Tolonews quoted Jawad on Tuesday as saying.

The majority of the goods had been exported to Pakistan, India, China, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, citing the official, the media outlet added.

Earlier, the Afghan caretaker government’s acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi said Afghanistan exports its products to more than 60 countries including the neighbouring states.

Afghanistan’s main export items include coal, saffron, fresh and dry fruits, hand-woven carpets, precious and semi-precious stones. -Bernama
