6 Runway Looks I Plan on Re-Creating During NYFW

It's almost that time of year again. Yep, we're on the heels of New York Fashion Week, and I, for one, have already been planning my looks for weeks on end. As an NYC-based fashion editor, this is my Super Bowl, so to speak, so naturally I've been curating my mood board and collecting outfit inspiration like it's my job. (Well, it sort of is!) While attending shows and presentations is at its core, the week is also a great opportunity to dial things up in the outfit department to test-drive the latest trends and hopefully get snapped by a street style photographer or two.

This season, I plan on doing exactly that. I like to take outfit formulas I already wear regularly, e.g., skirts and sweaters or trousers and blazers, and make them feel more forward and dramatic for the week so I'm making a statement but still feel like me. I've pored over the spring 2024 collections for months to inform all the trend reports you're reading on Who What Wear, but I've also been silently socking away my personal favorites into a folder titled "fashion week looks to re-create." I don't usually divulge the contents of said folder, but in the spirit of sharing, I thought I'd clue you in on the New York Fashion Week outfit ideas I plan on emulating to attend the fall 2024 shows and the items I'm shopping to do so.

For all its glitz and glam, fashion week is still quite a lot of hustle and bustle, and at the end of the day, it is work. I like my outfits to be comfortable, easy to move in, and above all, functional, especially with the unpredictable February weather. That's why I was especially drawn to this Carven look from the S/S 24 runway that takes everyday staples like a crewneck knit and trench coat and makes them feel extraordinary through sheer fabrics and layering. It's exactly the kind of practical yet exciting look I like to flit around in during NYFW, and now I'm suddenly on the hunt for a sheer skirt to re-create the vibe with—this Margiela style is at the top of the list.

This outfit has been in my camera roll since I first saw it on Gucci's runway back in September, and truthfully, I've yet to stop thinking about it. I find the contrast between the ultra-polished vibe of the glossed-leather pencil skirt and the sporty, almost "boring" feel of the zip-up sweatshirt to be especially exciting and cool.

If you follow me, you know I was tapping into the capri-pant trend during NYFW last September, and my interest in them has only grown. While I styled a pair with a pretty polka-dot top last season, this time I'm taking inspiration from the Ferragamo runway and styling the pedal pushers in a sportier way with a sleek zip-up.

Saint Laurent's '80s-tinged skirt suits are my entire style goal this season, so of course I plan on emulating them during NYFW. This pinstripe look finished with a gold-clasp belt and patent-leather pumps is how I plan to do it.

I'm very interested in capes and ponchos right now and have been looking to Bottega Veneta's and Phoebe Philo's takes on the look for ideas. This reworked tailoring feels approachable yet far chicer than your average suit.

This gorgeous look just graced the fall 2024 runway in Copenhagen, and I was quick to download it from the Remain gallery. I adore the combination of the sporty leather bomber jacket with the elegant A-line skirt, and I think I may already have the ingredients for this one in my closet.
